The Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced it will
provide Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) funds to the
State of Louisiana for Federal Fiscal Year 2005. The
purpose of this funding is to assist Louisiana
communities in implementing measures to reduce or
eliminate the long term risk of flood damage to
buildings, manufactured homes, and other structures
insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
The two types of grants available to communities under
FMA are Planning and Project Grants. Anticipated funding
under this program is forecast as listed below:
FY 2005 Planning Grants $ 155,400.00
FY 2005 Project Grants $1,673,730.00
Eligible applicants must submit grant applications
electronically to the Louisiana Office of Homeland
Security and Emergency Preparedness not later than May
30, 2005. LOHSEP will review electronic applications and
submit them to the State Hazard Mitigation Team in order
to meet the FEMA deadline for submission of applications
on or before midnight, Eastern Time, July 15, 2005.
A video-teleconference has been scheduled for statewide
broadcast beginning at 10am April 6, 2005 originating
from Louisiana State Universities Efferson Hall room
212. Location information and directions to all
broadcast locations will available on our website at
www.ohsep.louisiana.gov tomorrow, March 29, 2005. We
encourage all interested parties to attend.
It is the responsibility of each Emergency Management
Director to notify any municipality, Indian tribe and
public college or university within their respective
parish, that may be interested in applying. All eligible
entities that wish to develop/submit application must do
so as soon as possible. All applications must be
received by OHSEP by May 30, 2005.

State Office of Homeland Security and Emergency
Preparedness, Disaster Recovery Division. The e-Grants
sub-application can be found at
https://portal.fema.gov. Interested applicants may

electronic application process.
