During an emergency, access to timely information before, during, or after an emergency could mean the difference between life and death for you and your family.  In partnership with Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness is protecting residents by sending emergency alerts to email accounts, cell phones and other personal communications devices.

Help us protect you by signing up for this vital service. It takes just a few minutes for you to sign up on the Internet.

If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing, you can receive emergency alert messages as a pre-recorded video message in American Sign Language (ASL) and a text message.

How to Sign Up for Alerts – An Easy, Step-by-Step Process

·          Visit http://www.ohsep.louisiana.gov/

·          Click on the “Alert Sense” banner on the right side of the homepage

·          Provide your email and zip code

o     Providing your name is optional

o      All personal information will be kept strictly confidential

·          Indicate alerts you would like to receive by selecting from a list of weather and non-weather related options

o    This allows you to receive alert information direct to your email address.

·          To receive alerts via text message, provide your cell phone or other personal communications devices, and the name of your service provider

o     Signing up for the alerts is free. Depending on the terms of your contract with your service provider, you may incur charges for receiving text messages

·          Read the “Terms of Use” and if you are in agreement, check the box that says, “I accept the Terms of Use”

·          Click on the “Sign Me Up” button

o      If you decide that you would like to stop receiving emergency alerts on your cell phone, cell phone or other personal communications devices, simply return to the www.mystateusa.com website, go to the “AlertSense” page and click on “Unsubscribe Me”

This “opt-in” service is part of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), a modern alert and warning system that sends life saving information to many people as possible over multiple communications devices.

Get Alerts. Stay Alive.
